The problem with desire that’s inconceivable

Luscious
these thoughts
that seem to swallow
on October day,
as I sliced an avocado
then sought to peel off the skin.
Are you ever tempted
to begin again
where nobody knows your name
speak of desires decadent
β€˜yuck,’ he smirked behind the tent.

Love this pondering aloud and the slamming comment – typical day in the life of our household.

  6. This one ends with a bit of a mystery for me. Mastering the art of “harvesting” avocado can be a task, for sure. I’m smiling … and wondering.

  7. Jill Lyman says:

Your whole post is put together so well! Nicely written poem πŸ™‚

  8. You gave us a whole poem without all the fooling around some of us did; kudos to you for that-[-reminded me of TV series CHEERS–where everybody knows your name; smile.

  9. Just Barry says:

The rhyming is tight and the message resonates with me in a way that’s not yucky. Well crafted.

I can’t think of anything I want and lust after more than an avocado. πŸ™‚

  13. I liked the way you used the avocado to illustrate the pealing away of your desires! Men never seem to understand “what a woman wants?” Great poem.

  14. Mish says:

I feel a very interesting story lies behind the poem, eluded to in the last line. Very intriguing. I like the casual inclusion of the avocado. Nice work, Sanaa.

    Are you ever tempted
    to begin again
where nobody knows your name… like that!

  18. kaykuala h says:

Those unfamiliar and uninterested best be ignored. Need not have to waste one’s bother. Best to concentrate on those nicer people around and they are aplenty once they know our name!

  19. Old Egg says:

I hate the word “Yuck” you can cross him off the list! Luscious thoughts require sensitive responses.

  20. so rhyming…love how you use the avocado here!!

  21. I enjoyed the struggle with the avocado as counterpoint to the pondering in the poem.

  22. HA says:

Ooh, interesting β€” I liked how you used this particular action to denote the temptation of doing it all over again. That ‘yuck’ makes me wonder though and acts as a good contrast to the decadent feel of the previous lines.
    A clever write, Sanaa! πŸ™‚

  28. Marian says:

Love this, Sanaa! A snapshot. Yes, I’m often tempted. Or not tempted, but wishful. I like eavesdropping on these two and learning how they both lean, on escape and avocados both. πŸ™‚
