Soliloquy

For one that’s yet to come
I often picture
                how you would be
as blossoms swirl along the sea.

I sing the song
                of a gentle breeze,
toss ideas out to the cheering sun
               of a newborn clad
in mauve and gold,
whose eyes would melt a
                              hardened soul.

I whisper to a single
                              mockingbird,
‘oh how to soothe her flowing tears’
as pensive moon
                    shines by night.
Embroider her heart
                           with quiet dreams
as tai haku’s foliage sleeps.

Years from now when you will
have grown
              braced with a mind
that’s filled with choices,
            remember what you choose
in turn
determines your character;
let not temptation force you
         into a position you wouldn’t
normally consider.

For one that’s yet to come
I often picture
                how you would be
as blossoms swirl along the sea.
