Espadrille

With every step she makes a pledge
While radiant dawn sends out hope
Smooth on sand and loud on ledge
Swirls along dolce on nature’s palm.

Much like crystal set afore display
Her life an endless dance — ballet
‘Spend a day or two see how you do
for love they say needs must be true’
She bade passion mold unto her will
Twirling round in roseate espadrille.

  4. Candy says:

    This just dances!

  5. This is a dance in words… And it makes me wonder, how much we could change (and enjoy) if we made an honest pledge with every step.

  6. Nice incorporation of dance with the musical touch and of course romance.

  7. Eric says:

Each step of this is deliberate, inspired!

  8. Bjorn Rudberg says:

Dance and music, is a wonderful mix.

  9. Brendan says:

The dance inside this poem is ballet, and crafted delicate and true. Lovely.

  10. I love the way you’ve combined the two prompts, Sanaa! I was a massive ballet fan when I was a child but my parents couldn’t afford the lessons. I still love the feel of ballet shoes. I love the lines:
‘Smooth on sand and loud on ledge
Swirls along dolce on nature’s palm’
    and
‘She bade passion mold unto her will
    Twirling round in roseate espadrille.’

  11. Delicate and unfolding, as if a flower…a dance of real beauty Sanaa.

  12. Lady Nyo says:

Beautiful, beautiful, Sanaa. My mother (still alive at 96) was a ballet dancer, and there was a pile of toe shoes at the bottom of her closet. I was too horsy to dance. LOL!~ But this poem brings back the delicacy (and the insanity!) of ballet.

  13. Yes, a perfect melding of dance & music, reminding me of all the grand classical tunes that are written for ballet. Your rhyme scheme helps stay in touch with the traditional as well.

  14. Helen Dehner says:

Your poem came to life when I read it … lovely.

  15. Truedessa says:

I think life is an endless dance until you hang up those ballet slippers.. you have created music and dance with your words.. You have a lovely way with words Sanaa..

  16. lynn says:

One could feel the aftermath of brilliance – of one who could excel in a stipulated satisfaction of ballet movements

Beautiful! Especially love the use of the words “twirling round” and the image you’ve chosen.
