It begins with scent; cedarwood, berry and musk,
the kind that reminds one
of the woods, where the path is navigated
not by sight but
by faith and memory— and then with touch,
the silken fibres of being set on fire,
willingly, lavender sheets awaiting instruction,
as though reading in-between the lines,
it’s a pull deeper than tides.
The soft, supple skin of the wrist is witness;
as cornucopia of emotions follow,
the lips, uncertain at first,
as though looking towards the last rays of dusk
for approval,
gather momentum and kiss—
the law of attraction is simple; as a rose is,
it has both fragrance and thorn,
both, roots in the earth and foliage that stretches
to the sky,
but moreover, it requires comprehension,
think of it as art, eager to bloom,
think of it as the moon amidst black clouds,
and then you will know.
And then, with taste— amber sweetness of honey
and humble gaiety of peach,
it’s nothing short of a love letter to the tongue,
the one that comforts in moments
reflective,
an unsung ode to the body and soul,
the law of attraction is delectable, is dark,
is dangerous and deep,
for one forgets everything that has been learned;
I salivate, knowing it’s true.
And lastly; it whips with eyelashes, softly at first
and then deliberately
as though begging for admittance—
listen carefully, those earthy hues are everything,
they tell of disposition,
not in the way those cheesy romance novels do,
but in a way
that one can feel the summer rain,
the warmth of everlasting hearth and hot cocoa,
the law of attraction is self-evident—
how we interpret it, sets the tone in the end.

A marvelous poem Sanaa. I love how you weave in every nuance of connection that occurs when that sense of attraction hits us. Perhaps this is the sixth sense! To answer your question… sometimes it hits us totally out of the blue and there is nothing to do but deal with it or let it flow!

Often I’ve wanted to hear the poem a second time after you’ve read it as there’s always so much going on and so many lines to savour. You’ve encapsulated romance and that rising passion and uncertainty in the early stages of wooing, imo, anyway! The whole thing is divine but these lines/images are just wonderful:

Stunning, sizzling, cheeky, and so much going on as always. This is unsurpassable poetry. There are lines there that play with time such impact they have. Wonderful, wonderful read, teasing, some lines almost seeming to wink at you, and others smouldering in heat.

There’s a poetic to attraction and this poetry makes it wildly apparent — a slow rising arpeggio of sensory detail looped by desire into a question which hangs at the portal: “Are you up for it?” Which is both invitation and dare. Languid, plush and delightfully spread.
