Yet once more smile, oh departing november sun

With every changing season,
I am looking for a reason

Anemone
erectly flowering
fall upon my face like shadows,
as I cry for louder rhythm.
Though cogent this pain,
this unbelievable urge to shout and scream
engulfs me
I stand my ground
merely for hope which your eyes have given me—

I feel you
pulsating through my veins and blood,
the burning caress
of your wanton gaze, relentless lips
tell me are you afraid to embrace this feeling
that has made its way into your breast?
I want you
to confirm my worst fears,
I want you
to hurt me more than it’s necessary
I dare not withdraw
until there remains the slightest chance of bliss—

You are tempest,
you are wild civility
you are hidden notes that whisper from the depths
of mind’s library,
I fear this season with its gusty and offshore winds
has pierced through my undying passion.
You are everywhere and yet not present
like a dream
you continue to rouse and flood my senses.
Love mercurial — love misleading

With every changing season,
I am looking for a reason.

    So good:

    “Anemone
    erectly flowering
    fall upon my face”

    “I want you
    to confirm my worst fears,
    I want you
    to hurt me”

    “You are tempest,
    you are wild civility”

    1. Sanaa says:

Thank you so much, Shawna 😀 so good to see you ❤️

  2. The repetition of first and closing lines really works, Sanaa. I especially love “wild civility”, which conjures up intensity of passion. Wonderfully done.

  3. Beautifully done, Sanaa. The repetition works so well and I love the lines:
    ‘Anemone
    erectly flowering
fall upon my face like shadows’
    and
    ‘You are tempest,
    you are wild civility
you are hidden notes that whisper from the depths
    of mind’s library’.

This is very beautifully done, Sanaa. Such a passionate poem, and that last line is perfect, taking us back to the beginning again… so much depends on the reason!

    1. Sanaa says:

Awww gosh! ❤️ Thank you so much, Kerry 😍 so glad you liked it! ❤️

(and thank you for the lovely prompt)

  5. annell4 says:

Yes, perhaps we look for the reason, but not everything can be explained, not the seasons, nor relationships.

    1. Sanaa says:

Definitely 🙂 thanks for stopping by, Annell ❤️

  6. We look for reasons in our passion as if to justify it. Passion needs no justification. I like the ending how it takes us right back to the beginning. Very well done!

    1. Sanaa says:

Thank you so much, Toni 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️

  7. Bjorn Rudberg says:

This is so well executed… your passion is getting darker and better every time I read.

  8. HA says:

Ah, that repetition works so well, binding it all together — it’s like a circumnavigation through this search and this need for bliss — the passion and reason both bringing about a flux of this discovery and perchance reverie.
These lines resonated with me particularly (the juxtaposition of hurt and bliss is something one has to experience to know perhaps): “I want you/to hurt me more than it’s necessary/I dare not withdraw/until there remains the slightest chance of bliss”.
    A lovely verse, Sanaa! <3

  12. There is a fierce intensity in this one that I suspect will linger for many seasons… Especially in the third stanza, those invitations are dangerous and desperate enough to change the course of destinies. Wow.

While I agree with everyone that this poem has a fierce and unique beauty, I also find it extremely disturbing. That makes it difficult for me to comment. It is effective, I’ll say that, but I want the narrator to wake up and re-assess the obsessiveness that welcomes pain. m I misreading you?

    1. Sanaa says:

Yes you are. Thanks for stopping by, Susan ❤️

    With every changing season,
I am looking for a reason

Despite being a natural phenomenon year in year out one feels compelled to wonder, ‘why is it so!’ Everything can be rightfully explained. It is just that one continues to wonder!
