The opal waves beat forever against the shore,
regardless of circumstances;
of wind-driven rain pummeling the terminal
with a fury
and of clouded destiny,
perhaps, in rugged beauty it feels alive,
if I am to carry this,
then let spirit be my guide,
there is much to do under the lavender sky.
I don’t mind despair raging beneath the skin
nor lament for lost romanticism
on grey afternoons,
instead, I associate hues with people,
I write them songs from the heart
as consolation,
because nothing else can share chaotic
precision of tears swallowing them whole–
emotion swells
and we are left with serenity that drips
in golden slivers,
I can think of a river of reasons why
a broken and a whole person are not
so dissimilar.
I refuse to be cynical; I am not one to dwell
on strewn flowers
and wreckage laid by storms,
every once in a while
my heart tells me to align with another
and heal together,
not because it’s lovelorn,
but because it heeds the call— it’s just the way
I am manufactured,
a passerby with salted caramel eyes and
conviction that never tires.
I vacuum past woes and sift through sinister
shark sorrowing that threatens to spread,
a dull ache in chest is all that’s left behind,
I sip from a goblet forged
of full moon, of blackberries,
sacred scriptures, sympathies and glass,
I am convinced that connections
are hardly ever by accident,
they are paths which we choose to tread on,
a hum that echoes
in hopes of finding a melody that resonates.
Perhaps, I was meant to do this all along,
why else do palms radiate such warmth?

This is absolutely beautiful, Sanaa. I most especially am smitten with these lines:
“I associate hues with people”
and
“I am manufactured,
a passerby with salted caramel eyes and
conviction that never tires.”
and these
“I am convinced that connections
are hardly ever by accident,
they are paths which we choose to tread on,
a hum that echoes
in hopes of finding a melody that resonates. ”
Absolutely a beautiful write.
PS: I enjoyed this prompt!

Reading this it serves to confirm to me that every single thing that happens happens for a reason, with the negatives always alchemizing to a net positive. Very thoughtful poem, Sanaa.

I love it… In my thinking, new love covers a multitude of old crushes and heartbreaks.
“,,,my heart tells me to align with another and heal together…”
Your images are wonderful and your philosophy of love is magnetic! I agree, we are predestined by the paths we choose!
Well done!

There’s a whole story contained within your words Sanaa. Emotions still raw but optimistic at the same time. A wonderful write for an equally wonderful prompt.

This is simply stunning, Sanaa. Lots to savour and absorb as you weave visuals through emotions and philosophies of love. I especially love “I vacuum past woes and sift through sinister
shark sorrowing that threatens to spread” and the profoundness of this could stand alone….”I can think of a river of reasons why a broken and a whole person are not so dissimilar.”
Thank you so much, Mish 😀 so glad the poem resonated with you 💄💙
