The taste of carelessness

His carelessness tastes like forbidden fruit—
sweet enough
to make restraint seem childish.
I let it stain my mouth,
knowing desire is rarely gentle,
and love
enters quietly,
carrying catastrophe
beneath the softest pair of hands,

and calling it mercy
before dawn arrives, smiling.
