The Peace of Wild Dawn

Dawn delicate,
durable,
dreaming, bursts through the clouds
as I look back
swallowing
the last bits of a black bean breakfast bowl.

I cannot forget headlines
leaping out at me from the television,
the newspaper,
cannot disregard feeling of dread
swirl of smoke
and drowning hope in the drinks of Poets
on the other side of the world,
my heart is bloodied
but unyielding
I beg the Lord above
to lend me wings
so that I may breathe out words of healing.

Peace
invariably blooms
when we manage to outwit Apollyon,
who seeks
to trouble the minds of those
trapped
in the clutches of despair, of woe,
of hate
and circumstance.

Let us align with goal,
discover that strength lies in thought,
let not the brutality of this world
make you hard
let not the pain deprive of feeling,
of love
and perseverance.
We are stronger together
in numbers,
in striving to find a solution through means
of harmony
rather than leaning toward route of bias
and
destruction.

  1. Susan L Chast says:

Yes. May we, then, “dawn delicate”!

  2. Rommy says:

Thank goodness for those hearts that emerge from under the brutality of the world unjaded and with an even greater capacity to care.

  3. So much truth in your words. It is hard to keep our hearts soft in the midst of so much that is wrong. And yet we must if there is to be any hope for humankind at all.

  4. Good, solid truth – to work together and strive against the despair that divides.
Sending you love. You grow in wisdom and grace my friend.

    hugs

  5. gillena says:

Ah yes dear poet you deserve your wings of healing

    much love…

  6. We are unbeatable when we stand together, caring for one another, refusing to feed on the fear and pain of those some think less…

May all our voices grow wings and find their way to where they are needed most.

  7. We are stronger together
    in numbers,
in striving to find a solution through means
    of harmony
rather than leaning toward route of bias
    and destruction……..indeed….Amen♥️

  8. Sumana Roy says:

“breathe out words of healing. ” Amen. The only panacea for all the ills. May we all do this much. Beautiful ,Sanaa.

  9. Bjorn Rudberg says:

When we unite it’s almost possible to find a common ground…
and today I felt hopeful for the situation in Yemen for the first time in years.

  10. Jane Dougherty says:

I’d like you to be right 🙂

  11. I liked the lines /drowning hopes in the drinks of Poets/on the other side of the world/. Maybe it’s just secondary to the holidays approaching, but I am encountering poetics of hope and love, and I really dig it. In America our daily dose of chaos and cruelty blinds us to choices of real fellowship and affection for our fellow man/woman and those less fortunate than us. Thank you for your caring.

  12. The oxymoron in the title is original and it suggested so much before I even started to read the poem, Sanaa! And then the wonderful alliteration in the opening lines:
    ‘Dawn delicate,
    durable,
    dreaming’
as well as the action of it bursting through the clouds promises even more, which comes in the onslaught of the second stanza. Thank fully ‘Peace invariably blooms’, a lovely metaphor, and there is hope in harmony.

  13. scott hastie says:

Your message is a strong one, dear Sanaa and expressed with yearnings that ring so true…. Bless you and good luck tomorrow.

Nice lines and explanation why peace is broken when Apollyon acts “to trouble the minds of those
    trapped
in the clutches of despair, of woe,”

  17. Grace says:

    in numbers.

power and might, strength from a gentle soul speaks so loud and clear dear poetess.
    i love this phrase

pain can numb us from doing what we should and right to do.

Only in uniting, will people find harmony and peace. Lovely, Sanaa.

    True that girlfriend!
Wonderful stuff Sanaa! Strength in numbers, crowd sourcing and democracy will eventually get most of it right, hopefully in time. Let’s all be in that “coven of granular solitude “
