Now that the sky has fallen into the arms of grey sea
let us live; lift the chin and gaze openly,
the world as we know it has left romance behind,
has gone from long drives
to tabletop coition—
such a waste of youth if you ask me,
what of flesh that goes soft the moment
there is eye contact?
I am the wild sea; rushing towards the shore
with abandon,
remember me as fire that erupts in chest,
as sharp tongue
that refuses to abide by the rules,
what of hands that touch when we reach
for the same item,
what of body that remembers details
long after hours have passed?
Couples as we know them, have forgotten
the art of turning rhetoric
to argument for purposes of intimacy–
such a shame.
Remember body, the way you felt around point
of awakening,
not only desire but also innocence that
led you forth,
now that lips comprehend taste
and lines between lust and love blur far more easily;
remember body,
that not everyone is as stardust,
some are chaotic, while others are a force akin
to magnetism; choose wisely.
I lay with my heart open and mind bare
to possibilities,
replay conversations that take place on nights
sour and sweet,
while world outside grows cynical
and tears emotion apart,
what of optimism that struggles to breathe,
of youth that tries to make sense of it all?
Remember body, the mysteries we wish
to explore,
and silences that speak more than words
can ever hope to convey.
I am learning to listen so that it becomes the
perfect way to end a poem. Shall we?
Loosely inspired from the poem “Remember, Body” by Constantine P. Cavafy 🎬

Wow, and as often I admire most the closing of the poem. it is brilliant to end with such a question that just make me go back and re-read it again and again.
Thank you so much, Bjorn 😀 so glad you liked it! 💄❤️
Looking forward to the Live event on Saturday 🥂
An enthralling journey into the heart’s yearnings, Sanaa. I loved “the world as we know it has left romance behind,
has gone from long drives
to tabletop coition—” Beautifully written.
Thank you so much, Dora 😀 so glad you enjoyed it 💄❤️
“that not everyone is as stardust,
some are chaotic, while others are a force akin
to magnetism; choose wisely.”
I believe there is another kind, the chaotic forces akin to magnetism.😅 I really like that part.
Thank you so much, Melissa 😀 so glad the poem resonated with you 💄❤️
The poem felt like being weaved with and through all Elements. Nicely done!
Thank you so much, Oloriel 😀 so glad you liked it 💄❤️
Very well written, Sanaa. The body has a memory all its own, that can be brought to life with a touch or a glance! Beautifully done!
Thank you so much, Dwight 😀 so glad the poem and its imagery appealed to you 💄❤️
This is a poignant reflection. I wish I had learned that not all are as stardust and some are chaotic earlier in life. I too love the question at the end.
Thank you so much, Anna 😀 so glad you enjoyed it 💄❤️
Sanaa, I love your take on modern relationships. Your imagery and introspective reflections convey a yearning for a deeper, more genuine connection in a world that seems to prioritize fleeting encounters.
Much love,
David
Thank you so much, David 😀 so glad the poem resonated with you 💄❤️
What a stunning poem, Sanaa, from the sky falling into the arms of the sea to listening at the end of a poem! You went straight from romance to flesh going ‘soft the moment there is eye contact’ in the first stanza, so I wondered where you would go next! I love the passion in the lines:
‘I am the wild sea; rushing towards the shore
with abandon,
remember me as fire that erupts in chest,
as sharp tongue
that refuses to abide by the rules’
and
‘now that lips comprehend taste
and lines between lust and love blur far more easily;
remember body,
that not everyone is as stardust,
some are chaotic, while others are a force akin
to magnetism’.
Thank you so much, my dearest Kim 😍 so gld you enjoyed it 💄❤️

Thank you so much, Andrew 😀 so glad you liked it 💄❤️
A stunning poem, Sanaa–right from the gorgeous opening line. One of your best, I think.
(Though I do have to say that “flesh that goes soft” made me think of something maybe not intended . . .😂)
Hahahaha thank you so much, Merril 😀 so glad the poem resonated with you 💄❤️
You ARE the wild sea ~~ every line of your poem speaks to it. Cannot wait to listen as you read it tomorrow if I can rouse myself from bed at 6am.
Awww gosh! Thank you so much, Helen 😀 so glad you enjoyed it 💄❤️
Sanaa, what a fantastic reflective poem. The repetition of the phrase, “Remember body” made me think how the voice of this poem is intentional about staying in touch with the body’s desires and staying present within. So many delicious lines.
Thank you so much, Alicia 😀 so glad you liked it 💄❤️
Sanaa it is a beautiful poem on its own, but hearing your voice so clearly in it makes it extra special. You are a lovely person outside and in.
