A Quiet Bloom at Dusk

I keep a quiet bloom hidden beneath my ribs,
where dusk
hums like distant trains–
it opens only when I forget to be careful,
spilling soft light through
every crack,
teaching my darkness how to breathe,
how to become
something tender, something unafraid, again.

The image of that bloom in darkness is wonderful… made me think of the scent of those night-blooming flowers.

  3. A gorgeous quadrille, Sanaa. I especially love the simile ‘dusk
hums like distant trains’ and the thought of ‘teaching my darkness how to breathe’.
