Loitering at Dusk

Dusk, it’s said, is a quiet type of chaos
one that seeps into the flesh, achingly sweet
with moments of what could almost be pathos,
I stop and savor, can almost hear its beat—
the sky blushes and leaps forward and across,
I sought to follow, journey through its dark heat,
I care not for despair, for shadows and loss,
for they will soon withdraw with opposing feet.
And now hues melt in waters, come, let them be,
I’ve drunk from its cup, it’s more cheerful than tea;
what delectable charm it has put on me?

    Love the sweet, charming tone, and yes, the mood is cheerful despite the shadows and loss. I will drink from its cup too. Hats off to following the poetic form as you made this look effortless Sanaa.

    You managed to keep a rhythm going with this. Difficult with eleven syllables! Well done!

    Sanaa….this one…this one must read aloud by someone. I might have said it before, but this was a joy to read, for its musky, toying cadence, style (loads) and playfulness, while managing to attract those who enjoy high culture etched in poetry.

  5. Lauren says:

    I can see you there, walking along with these thoughts. I know you pass shady areas but you’re focused on the bright areas. Beautiful poem.

  7. This is a great form for you, and I love this poem. I’ve been struggling with it. I get too caught up in counting syllables and lose all sense.

    You’ve engaged all of our senses with your words. I especially like the hues melting in waters.
