Choices

7007902-mood-girl-dandelion-seeds-flower-sun

The life we live is governed by choices;
Don’t turn around or look ahead.
Be sure to listen to inner voices;
To focus on the present instead.

Who’s to say what life has in store;
Don’t live to be a troubled soul.
Though in life some rain must pour;
Don’t fall into the deepest hole.

The doors we open and close each day;
Are choices that shape our destiny.
Into their vastness – we steal away
Life is brevity – death finality.

Be mindful of your every act;
Torn between wishes and fact.

    Ah, yes, it is so important to listen to our inner voices & be mindful of the choices we face daily, as we attempt to make the RIGHT ones. Good message in your words, Sanaa.

    Nicely written. I will disagree, just a bit with the opening. I think as we make decisions we have to look back to see what we have done before, and if it worked, and look ahead to see what we hope to accomplish in order to make now (the present) decisions.

    Definitely the decisions we make will shape our destiny. I try to drill that into the heads of my students every day.

      Hello X,

      Thanks for stopping by, so glad you liked it 🙂
      Highly appreciated, have a great week ahead.

      PS: I actually meant in the opening lines that if a person overthinks then he won’t be able to make a choice 🙂
      Glad you liked it though!

  3. I enjoy the way you outline some of the choices that others suggest…well done!

  4. “Torn between wishes and fact” – that is a clever line. Some wonderful advice in this poem!

  5. It seems I am often torn between wishes and fact. This was so lovely–your writing holds such tenderness.

  6. Rall says:

    I believe in the inner voice….ignoring it has always been a mistake. Good poem.

  7. Claire says:

    It’s mind blowing how many choices we’re acceding each day and the different paths they can lead to. I think you’ve captured some of this so well 🙂

    Most certainly Sanaa, choices are not always an easy task, especially when wants and needs are at loggerheads

    Much love…

  14. Susan says:

    Sound advice. Life is so short–but not so short that learning cannot accumulate. We make better choices–including living in the present–as we get older, I think. I hope.

  15. humbird says:

    Those little voices will surely help in making a wise choice. Nicely written.

  16. Myrna says:

    “Be mindful of your every act.” That’s quite a command, Sanaa. If we all followed this the world would be so different. Enjoyed reading this.

  17. Old Egg says:

    Sadly from being oppressed a few hundred years ago the choices we now have give us false confidence that all is well. Sadly we must always be vigilant for oppression is always around the corner for the unwary.

  19. Nicholas V. says:

    Being true to oneself while making choices is very important, but also we have to be informed by our experience and learnt o anticipate the probable futurity that our perspicacity allows to predict. Well-penned, Sanaa.

  20. Sara McNulty says:

    A sonnet of sensibility. Wise words.
