Our vision clouded with pain and grief;
Like speck of dust from grass to leaf.
A storm of sighs forever blow;
Sometimes fast Β and sometimes slow.
Let out what you’ve trapped inside;
Cast your doubts and fear aside.
Refuse to run – refuse to hide.
Many a bosom sheathed in brass;
Heard me whisper – this too shall pass.
Hope – a long and winding road
For miles we lighten each other’s load.
Love – a stream which downward flowed
Our hearts are filled and heads are bowed.
Some made of steel and some of glass;
Heard me whisper – this too shall pass.

It will pass, surely. I guess that doesnt really comfort me though, because it cuts both ways. Even the good times pass on. Letting out what you trapped inside will def start the healing. Its like getting the infection out so that healing can happen.

Ha, I could not count how many situations I have managed to get through thinking to myself “This too shall pass.” It generally works. Nothing lasts forever. Even dental appointments come to an end. Smiles!

“Let out what youβve trapped inside;
Cast your doubts and fear aside.
Refuse to run β refuse to hide.”
Hard as that is, it is the key to “This will Pass.” (Even for things we don’t want to pass–but over time we learn it doesn’t help to hide or grasp to tightly.) I like how you’ve rhymed this without losing any of the gravity of its truth. I like how you address both those “made of steel and some of glass.” Thank you.

Running away and hiding is the first reaction rather than face the music. Life is a hurdle race all the way through. But as you say this too will pass and there is some respite between the hurdles. Enjoyed this poem. Your best to date.

Change is always imminent, sometimes we are desperate for it at others we dread it. As you so wisely put it “refuse to run, refuse to hide…this too shall pass. No matter how dark the clouds the sun is there waiting for us. Beautifully written.

Healing, even it is not back to normal, is essential for us to rejoin the fray, try again, lighten our load–& as you say /our hearts are filled & heads are bowed/some are steel & some are glass/. (or brass).

I’ve been in places before where I wondered “if this too shall pass” but eventually I got unstuck and moved through. This speaks of much pain and grief yet I sense a tight unity of partnership…that can only help lessen and hopefully shorten the pain on to recuperation. I really enjoyed your rondeau, Sanaa.
