You touch me like dusk—
slow, deliberate,
as if the dark were silk to unfold.
The room holds its breath.
Between us, something fragile shivers,
half sin, half prayer.
Your words move like smoke, finding
places
even silence hides.
I am made of quiet surrender—
the kind that hums, not breaks.
There is a hunger that waits
beneath my calm,
a shadow that trembles to be seen.
It rises when you look at me—
fevered and sweet,
like stillness aching to be touched.
Thunder stirs beyond the window,
the wind tasting of rain
and want.
Lightning weaves through clouds
just as I open
like a field before the storm.
If this is ruin, let it be velvet—
soft, endless,
and gentle with the promise
of another breath.

You read this poem so beautifully today, Sanaa. It’s wonderful but as I said, I especially was caught by, “a shadow that trembles to be seen” — so absolutely evocative of tremulous yet undeniable passion.

Lovely to hear you read this yesterday, Sanaa – I note that whilst you too have been drawn to write about politics, you remind us that there is more to life (love) and your poems are a balm to the spirit…
I particularly liked
“The room holds its breath.
Between us, something fragile shivers,
half sin, half prayer.”
and
“If this is ruin, let it be velvet—”
