And with heart on my sleeve
I breathe on beneath austere moon,
watch as peonies close at night.
Did you know it would come to this
a poem, a glance, and lasting kiss
how’s it that everything has changed
and yet nothing is different–
There is no other softer pain
remember love doesn’t let us write
our own ticket, and that woe is ours
until we learn to forget.
From midnight to slow rising sun,
I cup my hands around wistful mug
knowing that if I had to I would
do it all over again.

“There is no other softer pain” … Wow, I love that.
“woe is ours
until we learn to forget” … This is so true.
The last stanza is my favorite.
Thank you so much, Blue Ivy 🙂 so good to see you ❤️
love doesn’t let us write
our own ticket
This is sooo true, Sanaa. You ask the essential question in this poem: Did you know it would come to this? Truth be told, the answer is always no. The god of love is blindfolded.
Definitely 😀 thanks for stopping by, Kerry ❤️
Thank God we aren’t writing our own ticket… I’d have punched out by now if that were so 🙂
❤️❤️❤️
“Love doesn’t let us write our own ticket”. How true. And usually we would do it all over again, fools that we are for love.
Thank you so much, Sherry 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️
We can’t write our own ticket in love. Sometimes we think so! Good write Sanaa.
Thank you so much, Toni 🙂 so good to see you ❤️
‘remember love doesn’t let us write
our own ticket, and that woe is ours
until we learn to forget’
such a sad but romantic ticket you’ve written, Sanaa.
Thank you so much, Kim 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️
love doesn’t let us write
our own ticket…..like the others, i was captivated by the truth in this simple phrase. Nicely done!
Thank you so much, Vivian 🙂 so good to see you ❤️
Love is not a ticket really… only the leaving as that old Beatles song… She’s got a ticket to ride
She said that living with me
Is bringing her down yeah.
For she would never be free
When I was around.
Thank you so much, Bjorn 🙂 so glad you liked it ❤️
lovely. I especially love that last stanza as it resonates like the last note in a song
Thank you so much, MNL 😀 so glad you enjoyed it ❤
