Shall we head up to the river?
Flowing crystal tide.
Its surface reflective as a mirror.
Perch, ruffe, trout reside;
Choose a fishing rod and reel.
Up-to the margin of the river stride.
This atmosphere surreal;
The two of us together.
Our mind questioning if itβs real?
An autumn gust blows;
Crisp copper leaves.
The precise moment, he proposed.
Shall we head up to the river?
A moment deep, that chants forever.

Well, admittedly I would rather head DOWN the river than up! I used to do some canoeing and found going up river very challenging. Hopefully, as in your poem, going up river with a loved one might make the journey easier. Smiles!

Fascinated to learn that rivers in your part of the world are home to exactly the same kinds of fish as in more temperate climes. (I guess I never thought about it before.)

From the end of the old gospel song, “Shall We Gather at the River”:
Soon weβll reach the silver river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease;
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
I live for flowing water–whether it be tides or rivers running downstream.
