Soliloquy – Under the full strawberry moon

Let us pretend it’s June
embrace
the full deliciousness of this ripening thought
this break of day,
so peaceful is emptiness
that I should like to rest my heart
and exhale.
Let us pretend that romance isn’t as wild
and ephemeral
as we are used to thinking,
rare is the heart that’s hopeful
when slowly everything that’s revered
is dying.
Deep is the hour when strawberry moon unfurls
shielding us
from the pain that being human proffers,
to me
she is Poet’s muse,
comfort
and keeper of all things unadulterated.

Best seasonal wishes Sanaa, to you, to yours… and to all_!

    hearts give
    beyond common decadence
    silent souls

__ So often, those that give their deepest care… seek no recognition; ’tis often the -givers of human pain- that are most easily seen, and not the givers of care. _m

I think I would like to pretend that there is such a moon… a moon of love…
but the moon is a cold eye at the moment.

    “she is Poet’s muse,
    comfort
and keeper of all things unadulterated”

Getting to the heart of the heart is what moon this poem yearns for — the greatest intimacy yet also the most terrifying and sad. I’ll have what you’re seeing!

  6. Kerry says:

I love the narrative voice in this poem. It is filled with optimism, able to see beyond the present to a time of plenty.

  7. Such a gorgeously romantic poem, Sanaa, and where did you find that incredible image? I love the phrase ‘full deliciousness of this ripening thought’, like the ripening moon, and the lines:
‘Deep is the hour when strawberry moon unfurls

    she is Poet’s muse,
    comfort
and keeper of all things unadulterated’.

What a beautiful poem!! Who doesn’t love strawberries?

  10. The moon as keeper of the pure and precious. How deliciously! Under those terms, I have no problem pretending winter is summer (that’s yet to find its coat).

P.S. I might recite the phrase “the full deliciousness of this ripening thought” over and over today. And yes, it’s your fault!

  11. You write of the moon with both wonder and pain. Oh, if life and love could remain as it once was. Beautiful

    Me too.
    I am enjoying your poems.

  16. HA says:

Ah, the romance is not as wild and ephemeral as we have been told indeed. It lies in small things, it quivers and smiles in the form of a “strawberry moon” and the hope of a broken heart. Such a beautiful soliloquy, Sanaa! Your words are a balm to this emptiness; the pretense in lieu of dread is wonderful. Sometimes, we have to practice believing for it to work. 🙂
