Of what is and what isn’t

We hare off between the trees; unwilling
to blend in
with wildflowers in the fields and forests,
versatile blooms, blue
red and yellow,
one can easily be swept away into thoughts,
in tearful acceptance of what is
and what isn’t–
but let us not think about that for a while,
for now we run,
converse with the talkative wild wind,
hold hands and promise
never to fit into any constellation,
there is so much else to explore,
why waste time ferreting out facts
when we can simply manifest whatever
we want in life— but oh,
if only the heart can forgive its failures.
Something to think about.

  1. Please excuse the comment above, Sanaa, my laptop is playing up. What I meant to say is, the title seemed to be an enigma until I read the poem! What a delightful setting, and I love the use of ‘hare’, a favourite animal, and animal verb, of mine. I also love the use of colour, the thought of conversing with the ‘talkative wild wind’ – and the way it sounds – and the alliterative ‘ferreting out facts ‘. It is, indeed, something to think about.

    Love that!

    Most especially like these lines:
“why waste time ferreting out facts
when we can simply manifest whatever
we want in life— but oh,
if only the heart can forgive its failures. ”
Ferreting out facts….sometimes it’s hard to winnow down and toss out the mish mash to get to the facts alone!

I love the escapism in this – sometimes we all need to do that. I like the energy and the swings in mood, and the way you casually drop in those animal verbs. Lovely stuff.

  5. I love the line about the heart forgiving its failures – so spot-on!

  6. lynn__ says:

Primary colors of flowers may represent our primal desires? Truly, our reason must rule our wild hearts! A thought-provoking write, Sanaa.

  7. Frewin55 says:

A modest use of animal verbing but a fine poem that makes good use of sharing and ferreting – loved it…

  8. Kerfe says:

Definitely something to think about. Wonderful imagery as always.

  9. Eric Erb says:

Sanaa, remarkable. Self forgiveness is essential and seems so hard to do. But necessary. So grateful for these words, and to run for the joy of it

A beatiful poem Sanaa. The line above reminds me of the quote: “Be the change you want to see…”
