Of summer and wild musings

I pluck them between the hour of twilight
breathing in their fragrance sweet
having only to break into the halting buds
to feel summer stretch along cloudless skies

To fleeting time and wanton sighs
scattered upon flushed and nodding grass
this heart’s no longer a stranger
to the visage upon a sea of glass

How can I silence the soul in me
so as to tremble not before a whistling river
torn between echo of conscience and time’s
most devastating smile, I glide

I thread my way through the faithful field
knowing to crush our woes is to dismiss the pain
at length the stars reciprocate with praise
for courage to summer and wild musings taste

A wonderful field of flowers you have constructed here. You would love seeing and treading in our fields of Texas bluebonnets.
And pluck a few at twilight.

  23. Wendy Bourke says:

The opening of this is inspired. You begin with a reference to plucking buds and breathing in the sweet fragrance and dissolve into a beautifully rendered cascade of musings. I thought that was quite evocative and perhaps even, rather metaphorical in a unique and mesmerizing way. Great writing!

  24. Margaret says:

“knowing to crush our woes is to dismiss the pain” Wise words – and the beginning of true growth usually.
