In retrospect

I honestly have no words left to describe,
and yet describe I must.
It is central core;
it is both early understanding and conflict,

I am almost certain it is essential,
for every breath taken away after mouthing
his name says the same,
he consists of grey gardens and robust heart,
affirms to the saying,
it’s a once in a lifetime experience.

A soft stillness; as scent red berries, pink peppercorn,
bergamot, iris, freesia, lily of the valley,

violet, vanilla,
and rose fill the mind and speak out loud,
he wants romance, a sweeping off from under feet
and whispers that melt,
he craves intensity and connection,
then rest be assured, that’s exactly what he will get,
I am fire and feeling rolled into one,
the perfect metaphor to get him going.

To state plainly; a single life simply isn’t enough,
to love him into blossom
to sift ardor and ache in a sieve and redirect,
I want to lie under shade of long lashes,
read him odes and sonnets
until the sun goes down and fades,
I want to explore sweet contours that beguile
as honey in water,
as cinnamon and chocolate with regard
to bold baking, I will tell him all these things,
look him in the eye and ask him to be mine.

I confess, falling for him, is like deep sea diving;
is both dangerous and safe
is a gutsy endeavor that requires faith,
I must be foolish, but it’s rather beautiful
how mere mention of him
makes me go weak in the knees–
I am of the opinion that it’s necessary to lose
oneself from time
to time, I am an archer with a celestial soul,
I hardly ever tire.
As though on cue, the sky sings a lover’s refrain,
opens up and gently floods the land.

    I had NO idea your poems did not reflect a special man, lover. You have a magical way of describing two people in love ~ together! As I said to you today, your word use is incredibly descriptive, drawing the reader / listener in to your world.

  7. Brendan says:

    There’s a paramour inside us – elusive between heart and mind – who we chase with the flesh and blood lovers we encounter. I take the stock of your romances as flirtations with that gossamer. What richly endowed beds you savor in these Sheherezadean nights. Seducing that one is poetry.

    1. Sanaa says:

      Thank you so much, Brendan 😀 so glad the poem resonated with you 💄💙

  8. Sanaa, your words are so delicious they are a recipe for loving desire. These lines especially called to me,
    “I confess, falling for him, is like deep sea diving;
    is both dangerous and safe
    is a gutsy endeavor that requires faith”
    There is no love without risk.
    Keep shining your light,
    Ali

  9. Sanaa, it was lovely to hear you read your poem but it goes too fast and so it is great to savour the written-down poem and then to hear your poet’s voice reading it in the mind.
    If poesy was magic enough to conjure a man into existence, you should by rights, be surrounded by paramours…

  10. A beautiful poem that uses colour to convey emotions, Sanaa. I especially love the lines:
    ‘for every breath taken away after mouthing
    his name says the same’;
    ‘he wants romance, a sweeping off from under feet
    and whispers that melt’;
    ‘I am fire and feeling rolled into one,
    the perfect metaphor to get him going’; and
    ‘to love him into blossom
    to sift ardor and ache in a sieve and redirect,
    I want to lie under shade of long lashes,
    read him odes and sonnets
    until the sun goes down and fades’.

  11. Reena Saxena says:

    Ine can feel differently about the situation and the person, at a different point of time. We never know what draws us, and what will cease to be important later.

  12. lynn__ says:

    Wowza, Sanaa, you are a hopeful romantic with a pen on fire! Enjoyed the company at OLN on Saturday 🙂

  13. I love the thought of all the different fragrances filling the mind and speaking out loud. I also love the ending where it rains, I wonder was this in the poem or happening as you were writing it? Beautiful.

  14. Well, this poem makes scents (groan)…hard even to imagine such a mix of scents., but all nice by themselves. {

  15. Priscilla King says:

    (That ( was a typo, not a 🙁 . The poem made me 🙂 !)
