Lo! It is not thee;
Who is seeking freedom.
Rather its thy soul,
Vanquishing its demon.
Foolhardy art thou;
Boasting of tomorrow.
Dost thou even knoweth;
Of joy and sorrow.
Its the enlightenment;
Of the wandering soul.
To exhibit composure,
And carry out its role.
Life, is but temporary;
Thy loved ones are lost.
Lying deeply buried;
Underneath the frost.
Alas! Let us hope;
For wisdom and truth.
Embrace the crowd;
Of ignorant youth.
Lo! It is not thee;
Who is seeking freedom.
Rather its thy soul;
Vanquishing its demon.

The soul will always do its best to survive ..no matter the vessel it resides in
Hello Jae Rose,
Thanks for stopping by, so glad you liked it π
Highly appreciate your warm remarks.

How intriguing! Body as a temporary vessel for a wandering soul:
“Its the enlightenment;
Of the wandering soul.
To exhibit composure,
And carry out its role.”
If youth learned this, so much drama could be avoided. Somehow that makes me sad. I don’t know why. Maybe because I liked the passion and impossible innocence of youth? I resonate with the idea that corporality may be only one of the forms the life of the soul takes. Thank you!
Hello Susan,
Thank you so much! So glad you liked it π
The youth these days lack enlightenment, perhaps that is why there is so much confusion and drama like you mentioned π
The soul’s journey shall continue on in its search until its satisfied.
Highly appreciate your insight on this poem π

A remarkable reflection!
Hello Kerry,

that second verse…. so many people claiming to know about life without having lived it… like thoreau said ‘ it is so vain to sit down and write when you have not stood up and lived
Hello Suyash,
Thats a very wise quote! So glad you liked my work π
Highly appreciated!
Your poem felt free in its meter and rhyme. A beautiful piece of work using the more archaic pronouns. Keep up your writing!
Hello Steve,
Thank you so much for the compliments! It means alot to me π
Very kind of you. Highly appreciated!
The true essence of life brought so beautifully, indeed. We are what but souls who keep on changing one form to another and on the way get tied to so many emotions, but final enlightenment comes when we realise what we are and what is our purpose.
Hello Vandana,
Thank you so much for the kind words π
Highly appreciated!

This reads beautifully. The soul’s journey….I, too, especially like the stanza about the wandering soul. Really well done!
Hello Sherry,

The soul is lightened as it seeks freedom, joy, love and it must dance when it reaches its zenith.
Impactful verse my sunny friend.
Hello Leslie,

Sanaa,
I like the idea of the youth moving onwards, by embracing the wisdom they gain…and, the direction of the wandering soul…Prayerful.
Eileen
Hello Eileen,
Thanks for stopping by π the lines definitely gave a hint of prayer π

the soul a difficult thing to grasp
Hello Wolfsrosebud,
Thanks for stopping by, the soul is a very complex subject matter but I have done my bit here π
So glad you liked it π

The pronouns give this an old, spiritual feel, Quakerish, if that is a word. I think youth have forgotten they have a soul and that the soul is what matters. Nice job with this prompt
Hello Debi,
Thank you so much! π that’s very sweet of you π
Highly appreciated!

Our youth is time when we make mistakes and learn from them sadly those years have extended so much into adulthood to their and our disadvantage. You seemed to have impressed a few by their reactions!
Hello Old Egg,
Thank you so much! So glad you liked it π
Highly appreciated π

In the end, all the things we considered so valuable are noticeable nothings… How fuller would our lives be, if we learn before the end what really matters.
Love the movement of this poem. The highs and lows of its structure… its song.
Hello Magaly,
So glad you liked it π

“Its the enlightenment; / Of the wandering soul. / To exhibit composure, / And carry out its role.” This is an enlightened piece itself…sad that youths have to get there through time consuming experience…love this contrast between innocence and experience….
Hello Sumana,
Thank you so much π so glad you liked it!

We are lucky if our soul is enlightened while on this earth, and blessed if it is light in its voyage afterward.

Hello Timoteo,
Thanks for stopping by, so glad you liked it π
Highly appreciated! Have a nice day!
It’s nice to read this one again. The first stanza sings differently, this time around; my mind hears it as an invitation to be hopeful when things feel and look grim, from when the body is left behind… things will (or at least might) improve.
Hello Magaly,
Thank you! I guess poetry is a bit like art… each time we see it something different calls out to us.
Our opinion changes π Glad you liked it! Lots of love

I love how you used repetition and rhyme to make each stanza overlap with the next one. Your use of phrases wove together images as I moved from line to line.

Hope that determines the sustenance of a person’s life. Without hope it is emptiness! Great lines Sanaa!

Hello Kaykuala,
Thanks for stopping by, glad you liked it π
Highly appreciated! Have a great week ahead.
I read your words over more than once, for they had much to say…
Now I have a little to say, too?! Your ‘Doth thy’ would perhaps be better written as ‘Dost thou’ in this context. English language is such a minefield. *smiles*
Hello Jinksy,
Thanks for stopping by, appreciate your kind advice π
Will fix it right away π Lots of love
