Beyond Beautiful

Poem inspired by the song ‘Scars to your beautiful,’ by Grace Vanderwaal.

I see you despite the wall you have built
to silence
those around you,

I suppose it only makes sense
considering
the hurt you have endured
our feelings
are not always visible

and pain isn’t only what others define it to be
I want you to know
that each and every one
of your scars
are nothing less than a field of stars,
let me
paint your thoughts for the world to see
show them
beauty imprinted into fibres of your soul
you are beautiful
yes
you are beautiful
I promise
these obstacles are only here
to remind you
to shine.

  1. A beautiful poem, Sanaa. The lines that resonate with me especially are:
    ‘our feelings
    are not always visible
and pain isn’t only what others define it to be’.
    and
    ”…each and every one
    of your scars
are nothing less than a field of stars’.

  2. How beautiful that “your scars are nothing less than a field of stars”. And the reminder to shine. Really lovely, Sanaa.

    Beautiful sentiments, beautifully expressed.

    Yea, we can retrain ourselves.

  4. Jim says:

Very nice, Sanaa. It is sooo hard to deal with hurt another has, certainly so if the one consoling may be partly or totally to blame. Even when not intentional. Sometimes a flattering poem soothes beyond comprehension.

__ By reading this, Sanaa, thoughts of my maternal and paternal Grandparents came to mind; they were welcomed into this lea, by crossing the wall… as youngsters… through Ellis Island.

    to enter this lea
they sailed to this welcome wall
    an open gate

  12. Margaret says:

to remind you to shine! What an awesome line!
