I have simmered too long in this life; I want
jubilation, I want ache, I want it all.
The gushes of wind, the roar of the ocean,
I want the amber light of the sun.
Burn away reveries; for in the end they lead
us to nothing but detached blossomsโ
as a violin weeps her mercies,
let us be more than just heavier hearts
drifting amongst the trees.
A fragment, a trail of something deep beckons;
and I, with a pool of liquid hope in my palms
follow in its wake,
as the dying and the undying battle it out,
and sanity swirls in shadows, surrounding.
Yet, the blossoms heed not, embrace not earth.
Quake to their voices is undetectable, is unfound.
I walk around with petals in hand so that
I can understand why.
Lovers and skeptical alike keep sinking under;
estimate war coloured stories,
the blood, the bedlam, the words not spoken
and the loss felt insideโ
they rustle with every syllable of spring,
is this what is to become of humanity?
Is this how atrocity
continues to spread out in rivers green?
No, most certainly not.
We have dreamed of going down in history
as victorious,
bled ourselves internally seeing bodies
falling in the street,
we mourn, we curse, we stand, we begin again,
as days go by, as days go by,
perhaps this is why blossoms continue to
be detached,
they remind us of the brevity of life,
to tread into the narrative of changing landscape
without fear of failure,
then so be it, we hear youโand now, nothing
can stop us from having it all,
you, blossoms, know more than anybody about
rain that exists inside a being; we lash on.

SO beautifully done, Sanaa. I didn’t even notice the second and third compound words until I read that you included them as well as sunburn. All three compound words are split into their root words so well that they simply flow with the heart-rending emotion of this poem. So many lines I love.
These I am smitten with:
“we mourn, we curse, we stand, we begin again,
as days go by, as days go by,
perhaps this is why blossoms continue to
be detached,
they remind us of the brevity of life,”
I think it’s the repetition that make then so resonant for me.
A beautiful response to the prompt!

(and thank you for the glorious prompt) ๐น
Spring blossoms remind me that life and nature go on, despite the wars, the blood, the bedlam, our failures. Let the violins weep her mercies. Love this line: they rustle with every syllable of spring.
Thank you so much, Grace ๐ so glad the poem resonated with you ๐โค๏ธ
I love the recurring blossoms in this, and the circling back, so that the blossoms answer the question. It flows beautifully, so many lovely images.

A stunning and poignant piece, so full of insight. This image was striking and made me pause…”I walk around with petals in hand so that I can understand why.”

So much here, of what is forlorn, of what is seen, across the horizon, and within the blossoms detached is also the absolute delicateness of it all, all to be experienced, and yet…I shall record this one as it must be performed, brought off the page..beautiful, rich, pougnant…
Thank you so much, Ain ๐ so glad you enjoyed it ๐โค๏ธ

So beautifully expressed, Sanaa, the repetition working so well throughout and the glorious finale…”you, blossoms, know more than anybody about
rain that exists inside a being; we lash on.” โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Beautiful lines!
I especially like your wrap-up stanza and the metaphor you chose with the detached blossoms. Thanks for stopping by my place as well.
