The eyes are the mirrors of the soul;
Allowing us to glance inside.
Emotions far beyond control.
For eyes can speak the hidden truth;
Where the mouth has lied.
A whisper follows around our youth.
Though consequences take their toll;
To surroundings keep an open eye.
As emotions are beyond control.
When we glance into the eyes of others;
Unable to look past and see.
The veil of hidden ghastly colors.
From emptiness a heart I stole;
Inspite of being scarred and torn.
Emotions having lost control.
Pierced into the heart deep;
The dagger of his russet eyes.
Weighed beneath a mortal sleep;
Our emotions far beyond control.

The eyes do tell a lot about a person, its certainly the window to the innermost part of our core. I enjoyed reading this piece. How are you lovely, enjoy the new week!

The eyes will tell you much. If one can not look you in the eyes – that will tell you enough. Ha. The mouth tells us many things, but peoples words mean very little these days. Well played on the form.

Outward appearances and protestation are nothing to the emotion felt when looking in another’s eyes. It is as though secrets slip through and make themselves felt.

Eyes can say so much more than words, and so much less, too. I love the last stanza.

PS: You’re most welcome dear 🙂
SO much for the barrier between the private life and the knowledge of others. We need only look into eyes! But I suspect that the soul has other tools of moderation to hold passion as something to wonder at rather than to act upon. At any rate “out of control” seems sometimes to truly be a matter of choice as morality grows. I think you write about a kind of reckless innocence that you no longer possess?
Hello Susan,
Thanks for stopping by, so glad you liked it 🙂

PS: Basically this poem discussed the fact that the eyes do not lie no matter how hard you try to hide your emotions.
Well, how nice to find a poem dedicated to me. How sweet, Sanaa. Thank you. I find the villanelle difficult, and you have done very well with it. It is true the eyes tell much about a person…..I like the repetition of emotions beyond control, as that is how it feels when one falls under the spell, especially of russet eyes. (What a cool image that is).

Fabulous form and poem….Indeed, ‘For eyes can speak the hidden truth; Where the mouth has lied.’ It is in trying to interpret what we see…the truth or the lie.
