Paramour

Not a carnation, or burnished dove

I offer you, paramour, a garlic clove
It’s a new moon that shines at night.
Battling splinter cuts, and common
cold.

It will soothe as though seraphic fire
as shimmering aspen’s foliage sleeps
It’ll make ground beef a scrumptious
meal.

Not candied floss, or a chocolate box.
I offer you my paramour, garlic clove
Its pungent taste will remain on your
lips, unchanging and resolute.

Here. Like love it’s a growing garland
looks beautiful even when it’s broken
and crushed. Its scent, will stay upon
your breath, remind you of adherence
sweet.

Even as you plod amid snow and sleet.

That on its own is a pungent poem, Sanaa!

You are channeling Duffy in this piece, and beautifully so.

If love could do this.. it might be worth the heartache.
    🙂

Loved your prompt and this excellent response to Duffy’s poetic style.

Thank you so much, Kerry 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️

(also thank you for the lovely opportunity 🙂 )

  6. So many wonderful lines, Sanaa. I particular like the comparison between the lingering pangs of gone loves and garlic breath. Resistance is futile.

  7. An unusual and practical gift… Such a beautiful and creative take on your prompt.

  8. Rommy says:

My husband and I are both garlic fiends, which is quite lucky for us as we don’t mind each other’s breath at all when we indulge. I can certainly see the romance in the pungent bulb.

Thank you for today’s prompt! Great job. Your poem is beautiful. I love the way you use garlic cloves taste and aroma to surround memories of love. The ending is great…also love the ending as garlic is good to chase away winter’s ills.

near where I grew up is a town called Gilroy, naming itself the garlic capital of the world. each year a giant festival boasts such delights as garlic ice cream!

your paramour would fit right in ~

  12. Oh, the adulterous sweetheart! Love this line “Its pungent taste will remain on your lips, unchanging and resolute.” Delightful piece with vivid images of your paramour.

  13. Jim says:

I like to read what the prompt writer has to write. You did well. I thought Carol Ann’s onion was far out, the garlic clove is bit farther. But it worked well with your poem.

Great reflection of Duffy’s piece here. Thanks for the prompt Sanaa. Struggling to keep up with comments this month. Crazy April!!

This is something real and most telling of loving for a person. To be intimate with the aroma of garlic cloves can be very enticing, yes!

Hmmm…love garlic but it must be cooked. Raw garlic breath maybe not so conducive to love me thinks 🙂

  17. This is gorgeous! …..loved it Sanaa…!
