Suburbia

The woods we walk through are a blooming riot,
Yet part of the world that resides here’s quieted.
I gaze as white blossoms descend unto the lake,
listening to rise and fall of opinions in my chest.
Oh! skies above are tinged with tangerine calm,
knowing we smile boldly unto grief and despair.

Come, extend your handΒ and feel drops of rain,
as soldiers we wipe away doubt as speck of dust.
I, gaze upon hustle and bustle that rims the city,
and knowing that I am far, almost dare to revel.
The woods we walk through are of shades serene,
We whisper of woes which otherwise are unseen.

The serenity of the woods and calm sky contrasting with the bustling city life ~ I love that “blooming riot” Sanaa ~

“I gaze upon hustle and bustle that rims the city ―
and knowing that I am far, I almost dare and revel.”
The suburbs and city pale in comparison to the beauty of nature. That’s what I feel when i read these verses.

  7. You had me at /as soldiers we wipe off doubt/. Your rhyme scheme works well; kind of sneaks up on you.

knowing we smile boldly unto grief and despair’

    and
‘I gaze upon hustle and bustle that rims the city ―
and knowing that I am far, I almost dare to revel’.

Yes, whispered woes…the only way to say….

  12. Oliana says:

What a beautiful and romantic poem…nature is so beautiful especially in the suburbs where you can get in touch with the calm, the quiet…the serene. There are so many lines I love in your poem, but I’ll only choose one for now because it is so visual as well as moving ” skies above are tinged with tangerine calm,” that tangerine word is just perfect here. When all else fails it is good to walk with nature and calm our thoughts. It is as though when we return there lifes beauty is made more profound and we can let go of all our worries. How beautifully envisioned this is Sanaa.

  17. Old Egg says:

There is something quite enchanting with your poetry Sanaa where you are so innovative in your style using expressiona such as “tangerine calm” and “shades serene” to allow the reader to relax despite the woes, grief and despair that are refered to in the final line.

  18. Jim says:

I love it all, Sanaa. Best for me are the wiping away of the doubt, so easy, like a speck of dirt, and the tangerine calm. I’m headed to the fridge now, we have two bags of them, peel one and eat it. Very calming doing that, for real!!
