The taste of carelessness

His carelessness tastes like forbidden fruit—
sweet enough
to make restraint seem childish.
I let it stain my mouth,
knowing desire is rarely gentle,
and love
enters quietly,
carrying catastrophe
beneath the softest pair of hands,

and calling it mercy
before dawn arrives, smiling.

Dangerous liason, but it sounds like a forbidden fruit that is the sweetest

  2. My days of tasting forbidden fruit are over, but I enjoy experiencing it through your poetry, Sanaa. A stunning quadrille. I love the personification in these lines:
    ‘love
    enters quietly,
    carrying catastrophe
beneath the softest pair of hands’.

Loved this!! Reminds me of my younger days…”carrying catastrophe
beneath the softest pair of hands” no truer words have been spoken! Great poem and prompt! 🩵

Carelessness in love can lead to catastrophe, even if carried in soft hands. You’re ever the romantic poet, Sanaa!

  5. Ange says:

    Very sensuous Sanna 💜

  6. Oh my! This is riveting! I wish I didn’t recognize it so well, if you know what I mean. This is especially gripping: “love
    enters quietly,
    carrying catastrophe
beneath the softest pair of hands”

  7. shaun says:

Love the looming ruin hidden here. Everyone around will be shouting ‘what are you doing!?’

  8. Lovely, Sanaa. I love the constant suggestions of a certain danger contrasted to a more gentle love. Just beautifully and originally done!!!

  9. Jae Rose says:

A mysterious and sultry encounter – wonderfully portrayed! Jae

I can definitely relate to the catastrophe. Well done!

ahhh….metaphoricallly speaking I write…the taste of forbidden fruit and a dangerous liason….the taste of it all. ONLY you can describe it all this way. A sensuous poem indeed!
