I unlatch it with both hands,
the old frame tottering,
as if it, too, has waited for this moment.
The air rushes inβ
wild, unburdened,
cool against my face,
tangling itself in my hair
like something alive.
Outside, the trees bow and rise,
their leaves trembling,
as if whisperingβ
Yes, yes, this is the way.
And I, standing here,
barefoot and quiet,
feel something shift inside me,
something long held loosening,
lifting like dust in the sunlight.
I do not close the window.
Not now.
Not ever.

I love summer when I can just leave a window open… but as for now I keep it closed π

“Something alive,” like your poetry, Sanaa, which makes us breathe in sensations and images of the release of what has long been bound. Stunning write, my friend. Love too the suspenseful opening, literal and metaphorical.
Thank you so much, my dear Dora π so glad you enjoyed it πβ€οΈ
(and thank you for the glorious prompt) π₯
Just open a window to be released. So simple. Beautiful writing, Sanaa!

‘Tis how Eros called on Psyche – sported her off to Olympus on a breeze. And Sappho swooned, just like the speaker her. Yum.

I could read this again and again: to be savoured like a wonderful small cup of coffee. That moment, almost blessed, and how strong your verse is, how well it works without the trappings of pondering rhyme. A masterpiece.
That is such high praise! Thank you so much, Ain π so glad you enjoyed it πβ€οΈ
I can imagine what a beautiful day it is!
Definitely! Thank you so much for stopping by πβ€οΈ
A stunning poem, Sanaa, in which you made the window into a saviour and a release. I look forward to warmer weather when we can open windows again. I love the personification of the window also waiting for the moment when it is opened, and how you made me feel the air rushing in, and the feeling of βsomething long held loosening, lifting like dust in the sunlightβ. The window is also a metaphor for you opening up to something. Romance?
Awww gosh! Thank you so much, Kim π so glad the poem resonated with you πβ€οΈ
