Of love and neutral tones

As I would peel gold from a persimmon
so would I strip away hauteur
buried
behind the storm of your downcast eyes,
nothing quite touches me
like innocence
and words kept from addressing their pain.

You see
I want you from your skin

to your soul,
your smile deserves to be kissed
as though clouds
that touch upon a rouge sunset,
I crave the emotions
stirring deep inside your breast
the fiery essence
of despair mingled with conviction
and hope.

You are cornucopia
of winter sunshine, fire, velvet wind, oh layers
of begrudging leaves
who for purposes benign my warm and giving
nature deceive.

This is incredible, Sanaa. You should be very proud of this piece.

    These are my favorites:

    “nothing quite touches me
    like innocence
and words kept from addressing their pain”

    “You are cornucopia
of winter sunshine, fire, velvet wind”

  2. Helen says:

I sank into your lush poem, did not want to leave.

  3. Bjorn Rudberg says:

The imagery of colors are so filled with passion and struggle it seems like love is not absence of pain (rather the opposite)

  4. Old Egg says:

How beautifully you wove the words in your poem Sanaa, such a delight to read

  5. Rich with colors and feeling. These are the lines that most resonated with me,
    “nothing quite touches me
    like innocence
and words kept from addressing their pain.”
I also really like the last stanza.

  6. You’ve really captured the colours of that image in your poem, Sanaa, and burrowed deeper into it in the lines:
‘As I would peel gold from a persimmon
so would I strip away hauteur
    buried
behind the storm of your downcast eyes’,
There is so much passion in the wanting, the rouge sunset and the fiery essence of despair, and I love the ‘cornucopia of winter sunshine, fire, velvet wind’.

  7. Rommy says:

It’s hard to be in love with someone who prefers to wall themselves off emotionally. The sensible thing to do would be to find someone else, but hearts are rarely sensible.

  8. Sanaa- your words are striking and beautiful.

  9. Jim says:

I like your cornucopia’s mixture, Sanaa. The words here are the feelings of many but are seldom said.

  10. You’ve made made with colors and shapes and fruits and (as always, with) passionate love. The last stanza, in particularly, what a treat.

  11. Margaret says:

I reiterate all of the above … I also adore the idea of a person being a “cornucopia” …

  12. Oh my, again I am in awe of the beauty you create with words.

  13. HA says:

Ah, such a beautiful rendering, Sanaa. I love how you capture the traits of the person and your own response to it through the winter imagery. Also, the lines are perfectly measured here, giving in and holding back, exactly the way it should be.
Wishing you a great year! 🙂

  14. Kerry says:

Really, a most amazing interpretation of the painting, and an immaculate love poem in its own right. A thrilling start to a new year of poetry.

    • Sanaa says:

Awww gosh! ❤️ Thank you so much, Kerry 😍 so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️

Wishing you a very happy new year 🎆🎊🎈🍷

  15. Jim says:

This norming I am smiling, Sanaa. Your words made me smile, they would be fine on a “Love you” greeting card. My first thought today, though, did not go away. As I read I looked up and through our back door I saw our Orange Tree, with its three ripe oranges. Said, Jim, “you must pick them before the rain and then the cold comes later on.”
(Mrs. Jim enjoyed her BDay wishes. Thank you.)

From start to finish, this is one of those goosebump poems I always hope to discover. Impressed and delighted.

  17. this is redolent for its splendor – infused with such colourful language, it wraps up a season and a person’s character, and the wanting of it – and them, in a truly artfully explored fashion Sanaa – how lovely –
it’s a bit like sitting down and getting cozy with a warm cup of something, in comfort and anticipation-
    marvelous!

  18. So beautifully and erotically evocative! Did it get warm in here? 😉

    A wonderful write, Sanaa! 🙂

  19. This is so sweetly hot and masterfully mature.

  20. Barry says:

Beautiful and complex in texture and depth. Lovely write.

Powerful, raw and honest, and a beautiful flow…..I was so stunned by your poem tonight that I felt I should dip into your blog a bit to experience more. I saw the ‘Moonbath’ book and will purchase (of course!) when the wifi improves or I next go into town where it is better.
