Untitled (nothing more can mend)

And so, the day came
as words pierced through like glass
I stood and watched as time went by
unfurled as petals of desiccated rose

Our heart is a fickle fiend
its answers buried in the eyes that weep
a pool of regrets can never mend
what once was woe shall have a peaceful end

Forgiveness is the aroma that
roses spread long after a hand has crushed it
when we strive to choose love over hatred
yesterday stumbles and tomorrow begins

Such beauty! “Forgiveness is the aroma . . . ”

Nice–what is it about love and rose metaphors that works so well? I recently wrote a poem called “Gentle Rains” about how my soul is just a thorny patch of land, but her love and patience helps me bloom.
