Untitled (looking for a reason)

With every changing season,
I am looking for a reason

And I have recalled every day and night
Your fiery gaze and most winsome smile
Can’t decipher what satiates the soul
or what addresses the mind, every time
these ruby lips utter your name (devise)

You’re both consciousness and dream
A Poet’s vignette in the eyes that gleam
Can’t begin to describe (ballad or art)
the ceaseless breath, the pounding heart
every time you’re near or miles apart

With every changing season,
I am looking for a reason

I do like those repeating lines…with every season…I too look for reasons with every changing season, look to be happy and grateful, to be mindful. Lovely write.

  2. “the ceaseless breath, the pounding heart”

There is something so alive about that line… I can hear the gasping and the drumming, the desperation.

“the ceaseless breath, the pounding heart”
I dare say Sanaa, everyone should fall in love if if only to experience this.

    Much love…

  4. I love how this gem feels like it is inside a dream.

  5. Jae Rose says:

Looking for a reason is the hardest thing – you convey the thought so well

  6. I love the way the circularity of the poem reinforces the ideas of changing seasons and looking for a reason, Sanaa. I also love the pace and rhyme, as if walking along and pondering.

  7. Suyash says:

Ooh.. that was wonderful! I guess sometimes writing a poem is reason enough in itself.

  8. Old Egg says:

Often looking for a reason will divert your mind from your true feelings, so it’s best to follow your instinct then worry about what you did later. P.S. Do not necessarily follow my advice!

  9. Sumana Roy says:

“the ceaseless breath, the pounding heart / every time you’re near or miles apart”….So true.

  10. Mary says:

Poetically penned; and filled with yearning. I like the way the poem goes full circle and ends where it began.

  11. Steve King says:

“You’re both consciousness and dream”…and…”the pounding heart
every time you’re near or miles apart”

You collapse all separation and distance, no matter what the season. You describe feelings that exist instantaneously and then forever. Perhaps you are writing about things that are reasons in and of themselves. Very well developed idea.

  12. Sweetly penned. You make me feel it with you.

  13. Kerry says:

I like the way your signature line becomes two halves of a kind of parenthesis in which the new poem takes shape.
