Close your eyes

Close your eyes – what do you hear?
Murmurs melting upon this ear.
Is it music or is it math?
The scent of roses on garden path.
Words emptied on morning dew;
So far our troubles remain a few.

Much I reflect on good and true;
I begin again as if its new.
Conversations lack wisdom, thought
Conscious of doing what we ought.
I witness things that shouldn’t be;
Break these chains and set me free.

Close your eyes – how  do you feel?
Some things we just cannot conceal.
Song and silence of the heart;
Or tears which fall right from the start.
This life we live is complex for words;
But not one moment goes unheard.

Search your soul be wild and wise;
Discard all those who weave their lies.
Don’t breathe on world with fearful breath;
Do make preparations for glorious death.
The stars have aligned up in the skies;
Won’t you see?  Now open your eyes.

    Some conversations are even more silent than the softest of murmurations .. the warm breath can be just enough.. and maybe setting it to words would spoil it all.

  2. X says:

    This life we live is complex for words;
    But not one moment goes unheard.

    My favorite lines for sure. I think you are right and words are about the best thing we have to capturing what limited amount of life that we can. There is a cool contrast in this, as well as closing your eyes so that you can see. Ha. True. There are many more layers to life than what we initially perceive.

    I like the way you wrote about various facets of conversation. Interesting to think about the difference having one’s eyes open and one’s eyes closed makes.

  4. Oh this is beautifully written. I love the rhythm and lift, and your words speak truth, so eloquently.

  5. Perhaps in some existential way, we all spend a lifetime in preparation for the Big Sleep. Nice to be reminded that conversations are mind-speak, all we have to communicate with is mere words; something we poets hone & work on tirelessly. I like your lines /I witness things that shouldn’t be/break these chains & set me free.

    It is an experience to have that inner dialog. One gets refreshed upon opening back to reality.

    These inner conversations are sometimes our most intense and truthful. Good form for this poem.

  12. Sumana Roy says:

    “Do make preparations for glorious death.”…this is only possible if life has been lived as stated before…feeling and seeing is most important….i like the closing and opening of one’s eyes to perceive this….

  16. Breathtakingly lovely and wise coming from such a young lady but probably an older soul.
    Hope your day is fulfilled and just enough.

    Gracias mi amiga

  17. “Is it music or is it math?” Such beauty! And I want it to be both. 🙂

  18. So many beautiful lines in this poem ~ life is too complex for words sometimes indeed ~ and good advice on discarding those who lie, but sticking with the good and true. Lovely flow, too.

  19. We really do need self talk to get us through the challenges of this world. My favourite lines…

    “Close your eyes – how do you feel?
    Some things we just cannot conceal.
    Song and silence of the heart;
    Or tears which fall right from the start”

    Beautiful.

  22. These beautiful wise words are like a song from a sage speaking of living our lives and preparing for the glorious death….it is time to open our eyes indeed.

  23. Susan says:

    Closing the eyes enhances the other senses for sure, and makes it easier to look inward and see the truths hidden there. I like how you demonstrate that in this poem. If someone does that with you, the relationship can only get better.

  24. Old Egg says:

    There is nothing more relaxing than feeling at one with nature. How beautifully you have written this poem.

    Elizabeth

  29. Jae Rose says:

    Sometimes we have to close our eyes to become more attuned to what is – I sensed this in this magical poem.

  30. This reminds me of the Gauguin quote, “I close my eyes in order to see.”
