The Anatomy of Desire

I am not to everyone’s taste,
the crisp cadence
of soul drumming between howls of midnight
and edge of tomorrow
is a dose, is a religion poetic that will soak you
to the bone.

However fleeting, my favorite parts
of the day are the ones he has touched,
the pale translucent skin
of his throat is as frosted window,
is as blossoms and bay of fires in which my pen
wishes to descend into—
and I should,
for he deserves this state,
toss me the moon,
along blush suffused skin write unwavering presence
I imagine the clouds are jealous,
of desire
we bring into the open;
tell me, are my poems more palpable when examined
in detail?

And sometimes sleep feels like it’s unnecessary,
feels like winter when all I yearn
for is the summer of your lips,
slender and unassuming,
I do not make apologies for dark desire
to own you completely,
come taste emotions sweet, succulent and savory
follow me where the most
basic of appetites are revealed—
like endless fields that strawberries yield,
nothing is hidden,
love, not everyone understands the courage
it takes
to admit you are drowning in its waters—
both tempestuous and calming,
even your name
is beautiful in my mouth; I have
but long drowned.

Eros is a mighty daimon as Diotima told Socrates, and poetry is the art of eros pure and limitless.

tell me, are my poems more palpable when examined
    in detail?

Like dirty things whispered into a languid ear.
