Untitled (trailing behind a coquettish moon)

I listen to the gentle stirring of the moon,
as though hope spreading its amber wing
taste its varying mood and frame of mind
like sangria coupled with rainier cherries.

Oh! what does it feel gliding alone tonight
does it breathe the same despair as we do,
I trail behind and observed quiet strength
I watch as tears flowed as strand of pearls.

Perhaps the moon has grown weary of heart
and wishes for a couple more merrier sights.
I offer what seemed like a thousand dreams,
hear its laughter as sweet as a nightingale β€”

for the moon had yet to share its tale.

What indeed does the moon want? That’s a great question as it rests up there saying nothing.

  2. Jericho says:

    Gorgeous:

“taste its varying mood and frame of mind
like sangria coupled with rainier cherries.

Oh! what does it feel gliding alone tonight”

Oh I think the moon wish for something merry. She belly laugh whenever we don’t watch.

  5. I love the image of the moon as an amber owl gliding alone through the night, Sanaa, and the idea that ”the moon has grown weary of heart’ – it’s used so much in romantic writing it must be wondering when its time will come to sparkle rather than shine.

  17. Old Egg says:

How many years has the moon looked down on us and inspired both poets and lovers alike, lets hope she doesn’t lose her influence over us and “grown weary of heart” as I love having her inspire us so.

  25. You are most definitely a moonstruck poet, Sanaa!
    I like your questions:
‘…what does it feel gliding alone tonight
does it breathe the same despair as we do’
and the thought that the moon has perhaps ‘grown weary of heart’.

  26. Oh, the secrets she keeps, our moon…

Sangria coupled with rainier cherries sounds pretty great! k.

  28. Marian says:

Sometimes I think the Moon inspires our despair, or at least joins in without hesitation.

  29. Margaret says:

” sangria coupled with rainier cherries.” Lovely …. enjoyed the descriptions throughout.. I wonder … you start of with present tense “I listen”. What if you keep it that way throughout – do you think it reads better … end with ” “the moon HAS yet to … etc” What do you think? It is a beautiful poem.
