I really like the effect of that comparison. How the second line can leave one feeling that said orange might be easy to eat or disposed of, but… not the sun–that sun can warm and give life and burn everything.
I kind of love the way the first line steered the rest. The subject owns the fact that it is their choice to be vulnerable, their choice to share some of that sweetness. But I can see the last line as a bit of a warning too, similarly to what Magaly said. That choice for sweetness and warmth is there, but never forget that the sun can be cruel as well as kind.
Hearts are quite strong but break easily from other pressures, so we imagine. I think it worries more about keeping us alive than finding a suitable partner for us…but what do I know?
Sanaa, I can’t even say how much I love this short collection of powerful words. Because my heart is my most vulnerable thing, I made it as vulnerable as I could. That’s love. Courageous and full. Understanding the value of vulnerability even with its risk. I’m going to carry the spirit of this poem with me for a while. Incredible. Thank you!
Beautifully compared!
