and just like that I was swept away
as sugar maple whispers to the lake
pointing to a piercing gaze
and most wanton sigh
I fleet fast and perish like the ebbing sun
holding dear emotions of the past
‘what is life but a pleasant dream’
death winked and squeezed
my fingertips
Pray once
pledge twice adamant lips
‘as enamoured soul at ease with love’
and though I may or not respond
look to the stars
and far beyond.

Ah, I wonder sometimes if we will wake up from our ‘pleasant dream’ that is life and find that we are indeed somewhere else entirely…….perhaps indeed our dreaming state will lead, alas, to heaven.
