The time of autumn not long ago;
Boarded a train and saw sunset glow.
Round every branch the songbirds flew;
Those pensive features so well I knew.
I remember the train entered a tunnel;
Like a diamond pin to burst your bubble.
The words he spoke were oh so subtle.
Passing cities and country sides;
I once caught a train that changed my life.
Although he was – a mere stranger
Emotions brought of different nature.
Distinctive sounds of the train;
Felt the drops of morning rain.
The heart pierced with fierce delight;
I once caught a train that changed my life.

There is a definitely a romanticism with trains – and if you met him on a train, surely it changed your life. And when the light dips low in the tunnel – well that opens the door to intimacy.

What a romantic poem! The rhythm and rhyme of this is most enjoyable as well. We can all take train rides but it is rare we take one that changes our life. I liked the visuals in this and the story.

A powerful romantic vision, mixing the magic of classic train rides with a Kismet experience, synchronicity & such.
Light rails & commuter trains today cannot compete with the two-level super express flyers of yesterday.
I wonder if Love would have blossomed at 240 mph on a bullet train?

Ah, the rondeau suits the romantic mood you set in this poem so well! Autumn colours, train sounds in the background – and suddenly stillness, that look of complicity…. brought a perfectly formed image to my mind.

The male train.. no male..
just train.. one destination
straight ahead.. no goal
but to get there..
a whistle.. a device..
to sound an
alarm of
male..:)

I love the refrain, “I once caught a train that changed my life.” Meeting people on a train can be serendipitous. The transitory nature of being in limbo while traveling through time and space has a certain mystique to it that comes across very well in your poem.
