I dreamt; I held a conch shell to my ear
amidst dark waters,
placed my head back on the sand
and allowed the universe to communicate,
there is so much the human mind is ignorant of,
is blind to–
the waves crashing from pillar to post
seem to comprehend what is stirring within.

The conch shell feels as though hard silk
against my skin,
feels as though voices thundering through the centuries,
it’s exhausting trying to make sense, I thought
as fog hangs softly above,
asking time and again why he stays on my mind,
intrinsically speaking, we are neither better
nor worse than any other human,
when we meet someone who deeply understands
tone vibrations,
it becomes immediately apparent in the manner
they converse with us–
the question is, are we truly conscious of everything that
exists around us?

A conch shell does not dissolve in water,
why then must we dissolve completely in a pool of chaos?
Why must we succumb to pressure?
In black ash reveries, mermaids understood the
moon, its cycles,
can’t we then take a moment and peruse?
A part of man lives on even after death,
even after the waves of destruction he has endured,
I dream on.

I keep a conch shell near my bedside as reminder,
as keepsake, as souvenir,
and ask the salt wind to help lie dormant,
instead, an epiphany occurs,
I am led to believe that poets can stop the graying
of the world–
slender hands twirling meaning that drips
and casts doubt aside,
the time has come for us to be brave; the time has come
for us to be brave.
