I drew open velvet drapes to welcome the day
breathing in, amber sun and hurrying wind
between desolate woods and glimmering lake
I count murmurs which my heart had made

I follow soft voices that sound on empty street
find not strange afternoon’s sweltering heat
amid hours of weary grins and elbow grease
I ruminate what would make my life complete

I bid myself take a minute and observe the sea
there is pleasure in sound of crashing waves
there is pleasure in the value of ordinary life
I smile at knowledge that makes its way within

because experience  itself was extraordinary.
