Is your sweetheart edible?
Like butter on toast to break in half and share;
like rising to first rays of the sun,
together in bed,
tell me, “does the feeling put you on edge?”
I write poems on the supple skin of his wrist,
his collarbone,
like one would serve raspberries in a bowl to ingestβ
I crave him,
his mouth erotic, decadent, safe and dangerous,
compelled by a longing far deeper than corporealβ
are these feelings licit?
I fear nothing nearly as close can satiate; just as cheese
is salvation of the taste buds,
the sighs in his chest emanate cleansing showers
and kenβ
itβs crucial that I hold on,
like budding blooms become one with his sacred loam;
is your sweetheart edible?

Sweetly sexy.
Thank you so much, Sarah M. Connor π so glad you liked it πβ€οΈ
You sound so innocent which is in great contrast to the deliciousness of your deliciously erotic topic. Wonderful, Sanaa!
Oh! Thank you so much, Jade Li π so glad you enjoyed it! πβ€οΈ
I agree with Sarah on this one β and I love it, especially βIs your sweetheart edible?β and the simile βLike butter on toast to break in half and shareβ.
Thank you so much, my dearest Kim π so good to see you πβ€οΈ
Ah Sanaa! Always a delight to be back… And it is a both a fair and testing question you pose here… I shall ponder on this tonight!
Thank you so much, Scott π so glad you liked it πβ€οΈ
You snared me at “I write poems on the supple skin of his wrist, his collarbone,”. The notion that making love is analogous to creating poetry, when sex is love it is poetic is fascinating. I had a girlfriend once, and we used to say, “I see movie stars in your face.”
Thank you so much, Glenn π so glad the poem resonated with you πβ€οΈ
The title and the poem, Amazing work π
Thank you so much, Mrityunjay π so good to see you πβ€οΈ
“erotic, decadent, safe and dangerous”…..oh wow, Sanaa, I think you described your poem here as well. It weaves in question and forthcoming. I love it.
That’s such a high compliment! Thank you so much, Mish π so glad you enjoyed it πβ€οΈ
Don’t have one at the moment, but your poem definitely went down with a cherry on top!

Thank you so much, Kate π so glad you liked it πβ€οΈ
Very nicely done, both poem and audio. What a creatively erotic poem. If you had gone on any longer all that sherbet would have been a puddle in the bowl!!
Thank you so much, Dwight π so glad you enjoyed it πβ€οΈ
I won’t be up too much longer, Sanaa; thanks for something to drift away with.
You’re welcome π
mmm, a very tasty poem and some very original ways of eating your lover. I love your sunny flashes of inspiration about love.
Thank you so much, Georgina π so glad you liked it πβ€οΈ

Sounds like you are lucky indeed.
Thank you so much, Kerfe π so good to see you πβ€οΈ
Such a deliciously nourishing piece of work!
I am learning so much through dVerse. First Lillian gave Joy Harjo, now you give Carolyn Kizer.
βThatβs my subject,ββ concluded Kizer. ββNo matter how brief an encounter you have with anybody, you both change.’
For me with so little poetry education this is honey on new bread.
Thank you.
Thank you so much, Max π so glad you enjoyed it πβ€οΈ
Sigh…sweet and sexy.
Thank you so much, Ayala π so glad you liked it πβ€οΈ
A delight to read, juicy, tangy, yet not overly decadent. You saved room for dessert π ~Jason
Thank you so much, Jason π so glad the poem resonated with you πβ€οΈ

A sweetheart is always vulnerable that one would want them within us, much like gobbling them whole! Great lines Sanaa!
