Hour Of Midnight

Spread the love

It was the time,
Around midnight.
Thy senses void;
Lacking insight.

In the darkness,
It slowly crept.
Slithering across;
Step by step.

Until at dawn,
To utter disbelief!
Corpses lying heaped!
Swiftly, horror seeped.

Before thee knew,
The world hath ceased!
Killings amid;
Thee horrid beasts!

A glimpse of the end,
Was all hath caught.
Women and children,
Fully distraught!

None of these things,
Felt righteous to thee.
The truth, alas!
It could not be!

What could be done?
Grievously thy thought!
Peace and sanctity,
Itching to be sought!

    I can put myself in the picture here, terrorized and not knowing where to turn. The last couplet is surely understatement for horrors too big to express. Thank you for posting!

    Sadly armed forces are not intended or used much for benevolent acts, no matter the rhetoric of politicians. We are territorial animals much as in nature.

    How awful to be helpless while witnessing such treagedy. Through we know what it must have felt because we witness tragedies and injustice if we just watch a little of the news on TV.
    I like the style of you writing here, it created a mood that depicts those times.

    1. sanaarizvi@hotmail.com says:

      Hello Myrna,

      Thank you! You’re absolutely right, there are so many incidents such as the one depicted in the poem but people are captivated by fear and nobody knows when the horror will end! They want “Peace and sanctity.”
