We often forget the things we have got;
Dispense the lore which we were taught.
We’re conscious of doing what we ought;
And yet we marvel at those who sought.
Often we whine about things we’ve lost;
Perhaps because of the ways we fought.
Some say it’s cheating if we get caught;
Cause inept rhymes are roughly wrought.
Sometimes our life re-writes our plot;
Come out from hiding –Β sequestered spot.
It takes forever to see what we have got;
And that my friends is food for thought.

The last verse is the cherry on the cake of this delicious poem..yes it’s easier to look back and be bitter..learning to see the sweetness of now and what we have is a skill and a gift..

Thank you, Sanaa, for posting such, an elegant poem, which I find myself, having to remind myself this, on a daily basis, as I walk my journey of healing, in regards, to my memories of abuse and the struggle with my health, both mentally and physically. Thank you, for sharing this reminder that life is fluid, like a river, as it carves its way, toward the sea. Merci.

There’s much food for thought here about what we own or lost or know or forgot, whether things go as planned or not. Having food for thought often prevents me whining altogether. Your rhyming is clever, Sanaa, though I am not sure I’ve caught the full sense of the poem.

PS: I meant to say that we spend all our time whining instead of appreciating what we have. For me that’s food for thought.
Beautiful! I like the line “inept rhymes are roughly wrought” Truly food for thought!!
