Slept with shadows and searched the earth;
longing to findΒ armistice. Thus signed both
names with breath when rescued him from
death. Entranced withΒ cherry tobacco scent
lingering soft upon your coat; while sharing
summer eve so sweet – dining with hot wine
and bread.
Lo! such strange perfume did he with roses
paint; thus shades of passion meld with soft
untroubled kiss. Oh scent as deep as waters
mend these throes of pain; silence and song
of heart with hope broke loose again. Hence
love and madness ran swift along with rain.
Smiles adorned and blessed the shore;
Knowing bliss shall reign forevermore.

For my prompt “Nothing is more memorable than Scent” tomorrow at
8:00 am EDT.
There is something alluring (and nearly maddening) about scents… the way we attach them to people and places and memories… the way they can take us there (and to them) in just a second…
I really like the last two lines of the second stanza. There is something catchy about the movement of the imagery, about what it’s promised.β€

Loved the way that you used scent to frame this piece – the sense of smell having such a strong effect on memory (probably more so than any of our other senses). This is a beautifully written poem and I really enjoyed reading it … for me: up there with some of your best work.
