Then hear me now, as I bend and gaze;
Echo: Gaze
He plunged his arms to revere, embrace
Echo: Embrace
He hovered around fountain lost in praise;
Echo: Praise
And lost count of passing nights and days
Echo: Days
Beautiful being, why do you shun and fade?
Echo: Fade
Hear me sigh enamoured by looks and ways
Echo: Ways
Narcissus knew not he loved his own image;
Echo: Image
“Do we ever know when it’s time to finish?”
Echo: Finish
He weeped as tears meld with troubled water;
Echo: Water
He knew not what else he could possibly offer.
Echo: Offer
Vanity, I’m sensible enough not to fall as prey;
Echo: Play
As I write down my words in pursuit of today.
Echo: Stay
Form: Echo Verse

WOW!!!
Beautifully woven, with such insightful repetitions. It made me think of my youthful adoration that I called love. I like the variation in the last verse.
Thank you so much, Susan π so glad you liked it β€οΈ
(and thank you for the lovely prompt)
A superb Echo Verse exploiting the Greek myth so perfect for this prompt. Brilliant, Sanaa.
Thank you so much, Sumana π so good to see you β€οΈ
I would be unnerved to hear those echoes!
Definitely π thanks for stopping by, MMT β€οΈ
NICE use of Echo Verse, Sanaa. So clever.
Thank you so much, De π so glad you enjoyed it β€οΈ
I wrote it at Sumana’s as well. It was interesting in researching for the prompt that some of the more vain people identified were poets, in our need to express ourselves. It is a fine line there. Especially in the social media medium…as we often feel full on the praise we receive.
The echo definitely adds much to this. It makes it rather haunting.
How easy it is to fall prey to our vanity. I think the telling line in your verse is that, he did not even know he had fallen prey. Would we?
Thank you so much, X π for your wise and thoughtful words. I too wonder if we would be able to tell if we had fallen prey.. sigh..
We have to be a little full of it! Or we would never share our work.
π
It looks like Echo found her own words at the end.
Definitely π thanks for stopping by, Rommy β€οΈ
I like the echoing, which adds so much to the main lines.
Thank you so much, Sherry π so glad you liked it β€οΈ
Great use of the echo device Sanaa!
Thank you so much, Toni π so good to see you β€οΈ
I am wondering how the poem would be if Echo’s words had been different? Nicely done….
Thank you so much, Annell π so good to see you β€οΈ
This is beautifully crafted Sanaa, What a fool Narcissus is not to look on Echo. Sadly we all have faults don’t we?
Definitely π thanks for stopping by, Robin β€οΈ

Thank you so much, Barry π so glad you liked it β€οΈ
I really like the structure, and how Echo claims her own voice in the end.
Thank you so much, Magaly π so good to see you β€οΈ
these echos sometimes show us the true path, for they come from our true heart.
π
Clever use of the Echo form to write about Echo and Narcissus!
Thank you so much, Rajani π so good to see you β€
This is so very well done. So clever to use Echo as a voice in the form. The mood is as languid as Narcissus and the scene, magical.
Thank you so much, Kerry π so glad you enjoyed it β€
Superbly done Sanaa.
How little we know ourselves…
