What is this feeling that so consumes;
Our mind forever – a flower in bloom.
A craving for words to reassure;
There’s only so much we can endure.
He carried his love – like battle scars;
Dreams but wishes upon the stars.
Comrade mine why cans’t thou see;
Compassion alone shall set thou free.
As time goes by – these wounds shall heal;
Conviction alone shall spin the wheels.
Two hearts, one soul, come forth – combine.
Affinity forever is redefined.
Wistful dreams contour the night;
Dazzled not but cleared our sight.

“True compassion means not only feeling another’s pain but also being moved to help relieve it.” – Daniel Goleman
As the saying goes “Once bitten twice shy” for being hurt in a relationship does demand a very careful appraisal the next time round.
Hello Old Egg,
Thanks for stopping by, so glad you liked it 😀
Highly appreciated, have a great week ahead.
Compassion goes a long way to massaging the heart to work out the knots. When one is wounded it takes patience as well, time to trust again, to work through the things that happened. Walk that road with them and you will have a strong foundation for love, surely.

Loves only matures & grows post-lust & honeymoon out of turmoil, conflict–even chaos–and after each healing it becomes more resilient. Nice job with this sonnet; very engaging.

My favorite poem. I love this poem so much.
Here are some quotes relating to compassion.
Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life’s search for love and wisdom. ~Rumi
My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. ~Maya Angelou

Beautiful! I love this line in particular: “Compassion alone shall set thou free.” If only there were more compassion in the world, what a wonderful place it would be.
Definitely ❤️ thank you kindly, Linda 🙂
Wonderfully written. Compassion is crucial and particularly I find towards self as well as other. Our difficulties in life/relationship are as compost for the garden, allowing us to grow more compassionate with experience, good and bad.
I never thought about it like that 🙂 thank you for sharing, Paul
Wistful dreams contour the night;
Dazzled not but cleared our sight.
