Feels like I have been here before,
the sights
and sounds seem familiar even though I haven’t set foot
upon the ground,
by day the city is bathed in light,
a shade of soft gold
I experience a sugar rush while sipping cherry lime ricky
at Tom’s restaurant,
how many hours of peace can I keep in my pocket?
I wonder
as light is replaced by unrelenting blackness of night,
with time
I have learned that you aren’t born with wings
but take a moment
and try to answer what seems to be a simple question,
can we write silence?
can we attempt to supersede negativity with possibility?
The wind carries with it a hint of ache
the way it persists,
it could almost be another season in another place
but I wouldn’t wish to be anywhere
but here,
as I experience a moment of epiphany that befalls
like a rich blanket of mauve,
you see
the key to dealing with obstacles is to remain calm
for not all storms are meant to disrupt
our life pattern,
some are only meant to push towards direction
of dreams,
yes it feels like I have been here before
the sights
and sounds seem familiar even though I haven’t set foot
upon the ground;
vision is the first step towards achieving the impossible.

“The wind carries with it a hint of ache

beautiful. The ending lines really are true – and that photo – man I have to go to that spot next time I’m in Manhattan…
Thank you so much, Margaret 😀 so glad you enjoyed it ❤️

This is so wise, Sanaa. I visited new York 30 years ago, and now it seems like a dream to me. Reading your poem brought the dream back to life.
Thank you so much, Kerry 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️
I love the image you chose, Sanaa, and what it has inspired you to write, especially the lines:
‘how many hours of peace can I keep in my pocket?
I wonder
as light is replaced by unrelenting blackness of night’
and
‘The wind carries with it a hint of ache
the way it persists,
it could almost be another season in another place
but I wouldn’t wish to be anywhere
but here’.
Thank you so much, Kim 😀 so glad you enjoyed it ❤️

There is so much beauty in your words

our life pattern,

A wonderful line … and so true. Actually, it dovetails rather splendidly with the story I posted this week for Poetry Pantry about ‘watershed moments’. Our poetic muse seems to be in tandem, today.

a very thoughtful poem.
sometimes we do experience that, a sense of deja vu, that the sights and sounds of a moment we have seen or heard before.
“can we write silence?” we can try, and i think poets will. 🙂
Thank you so much, Lee San 😀 so glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Sanaa, you wrote this sooo nicely, until you reached the end I was thinking that you were there now. Your first line, using the word, ‘before”. Mind went to ‘before what?’ And it thought it was before now, being there now. But I enjoyed I much, even enjoyed the trick of my mind . Your use of “haven’t ” in the second sentence was the cle.

“Can we write silence” – Love that line, Sanaa. You also picked one of the most beautiful places for your photo. What can I say? I was born and bred in good old Brooklyn!
