With every passing hour of Spring, my love

Spread the love

There are numberless questions to be asked,
some of which
no matter how hard I try,
remain within the barriers of less than rosy lips—
after hours are no longer bruising;
I have surrendered to the flow of the universe.
The sky, a witness to ever-increasing ardor that blooms in
my breast,

who designed this path we are treading upon?
Barely a whisper,
my name upon your tongue reveals far more shades
than one,
and I think back to the times when I have made you laugh—
my skin yet to feel your touch,
revels in the warmth of your eyes instead.
Without you, breath is nothing more than a wisp of smoke
that hurts;
routine in the form of your embrace is what my heart yearns for.

  1. A wonderful quote to choose, and a splendid poem inspired by it. I particularly love, ‘Without you, breath is nothing more than a wisp of smoke’ and the final line.

    In these difficult times, the routines we cherish have been disrupted for many, and a number of people are parted from their loved ones. May this soon be rectified!

  2. I’m amazed that you have managed to imbue a quote from To Kill a Mockingbird with the essence of romance, Sanaa! My favourite lines:
    ‘Barely a whisper,
    my name upon your tongue reveals far more shades
    than one’
    and
    ‘Without you, breath is nothing more than a wisp of smoke
    that hurts’.

  3. I have surrendered to the flow of the universe.
    For me, this line summarizes April 2020. One thing we have had to learn to accept.
    Thank you for so many inspiring poems this month, Sanaa, and especially for making use of my Wordlist. it has been a lot of fun.

    1. It has indeed been a lot of fun writing alongside you and the others, Kerry! 😘 This is going to be an April to remember, so glad you liked the poem! 💄❤️

  4. I love this poem, created so skilfully from your chosen quote. I especially like “ Without you, breath is nothing more than a wisp of smoke that hurts;”. 🌹❣️🙏
