I remember sleeping, facing towards the moon.
‘Baby, do you want me to leave the door open?’
As a child I was never really afraid of the dark.
I would run errands without turning on a light.

‘The boogey….who? I laughed as she explained.
‘You know the monster that comes out at night.’
As a child I didn’t believe there were monsters.
I, would destroy villains, in a fairy-tale instead.

Because, whenever the clock, chimed midnight,
I, would borrow a book, from the highest ledge.
Weave, hopes and dreams across a gilded page,
I would triumph fear oh trap him inside a cage.

His deep, dark secret was revealed to everyone.
