Train

Spread the love

autumn_in_prague-wallpaper-960x540

The time of autumn not long ago;
Boarded a train and saw sunset glow.
Round every branch the songbirds flew;
Those pensive features so well I knew.
I remember the train entered a tunnel;
Like a diamond pin to burst your bubble.
The words he spoke were oh so subtle.
Passing cities and country sides;
I once caught a train that changed my life.

Although he was – a mere stranger
Emotions brought of different nature.
Distinctive sounds of the train;
Felt the drops of morning rain.
The heart pierced with fierce delight;
I once caught a train that changed my life.

  1. There is a definitely a romanticism with trains – and if you met him on a train, surely it changed your life. And when the light dips low in the tunnel – well that opens the door to intimacy.

    1. Hello X,

  2. What a romantic poem! The rhythm and rhyme of this is most enjoyable as well. We can all take train rides but it is rare we take one that changes our life. I liked the visuals in this and the story.

  3. A powerful romantic vision, mixing the magic of classic train rides with a Kismet experience, synchronicity & such.
    Light rails & commuter trains today cannot compete with the two-level super express flyers of yesterday.
    I wonder if Love would have blossomed at 240 mph on a bullet train?

  4. I enjoyed this one. Indeed there are trains that change a person’s life. I have been on one or two of those! How about you? Have you?

      PS: Yes I have been quite a few times 🙂

  5. Ah, the rondeau suits the romantic mood you set in this poem so well! Autumn colours, train sounds in the background – and suddenly stillness, that look of complicity…. brought a perfectly formed image to my mind.

  6. I love the refrain, “I once caught a train that changed my life.” Meeting people on a train can be serendipitous. The transitory nature of being in limbo while traveling through time and space has a certain mystique to it that comes across very well in your poem.

  7. Train rides always full of anticipation and mystery. I like the way that you used the Rondeau to keep the verse moving (like a train)

    Well done Sunny One

  8. “I remember the train entered a tunnel;
    Like a diamond pin to burst your bubble.”

    “a diamond pin” surely a right one metaphor

    all the scenery rushing in through the swiftly moving train, happy your trip ends on a happy note

  9. The train is an effective metaphor for progression in life, and how nice to meet a person who will change one’s life for the better.
