I carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) ― E. E. Cummings
It feels as though perpetual fire burns —
creeps upon as blush while thought of you returns
I sigh as ripples of water expand across the lake
and wonder if you care whether I sleep or wake
Autumn arrayed in crimson red, bear folds of fading green
reminds me oh that life is but an empty dream —
I carry you inside regardless of where I go
as courage among unpetaled crocus grows
I utter in serene and solemn hour
I love you (more) for what you are

Autumn arrayed in crimson red, bear folds of fading green
reminds me oh that life is but an empty dream — I love this!
a lovely poem, Sanaa 🙂
Thank you kindly, Ladylee ❤
“creeps upon as blush while thought of you returns” and “I carry you inside regardless of where I go / as courage among unpetaled crocus grow”…beautiful lines, like an extension of Cumming’s quote…
Thank you so much, Sumana ❤ so glad you liked the poem 🙂
Lovely! ❤
Thank you so much, Josslyn ❤
I do love the sense the rhyme in combination of the uneven line length gives… wonderful and romantic.
Thank you Bjorn 🙂 so glad you liked the poem.
I sigh as ripples of water expand across the lake
and wonder if you care whether I sleep or wake
Autumn arrayed in crimson red, bear folds of fading green
reminds me oh that life is but an empty dream
Yes, sometimes one just wonders whether he cares or not. This is classic rhyming Sanaa!
Hank
Definitely 🙂 Thank you kindly, Hank
What a significant last line for while looks attract it is the person inside that really counts and it is those qualities that keep you together. A beautiful poem Sanaa.
Thank you so much, Robin 🙂 so glad you liked it.
Such a sweet line of cummins! A favourite of mine, and I think many people’s. Your lovely poem riffs off it beautifully – and we already know you are no stranger to rhyme!
Thank you so much, Rosemary ❤ for your kind and loving words 😀

Thank you Gina ❤ so glad you liked it 😀
There is so much love in these lines, a sense of forever that paints a smile on my face.
Thank you so much, Magaly ❤ so glad you liked it 😀
I like the bear fold reference not least because of the association with hibernation – feels like feelings of love are similarly attenuated – even if you meant ‘bare’ the naked pain is evident here especially these sensational lines:
” sigh as ripples of water expand across the lake
and wonder if you care whether I sleep or wake”
Thank you kindly, Laura 🙂
I enjoyed this poem so much. Rhythmic, sensual and romantic. A touch of melancholy too perhaps.
Thank you so much, Ellecee ❤ so glad you liked it.
Lovely flow to this with rhyming that avoids the sing-song effect so perfectly.
Thank you so much, Victoria ❤ so glad you liked it.

Thank you kindly, Rajani ❤
Lovely and clearly heartfelt.
Thank you so much, J 🙂
You have expanded the quote quite beautifully – perhaps that we love and treasure someone’s heart is more important in some ways than wondering if we are loved back in the same way
Definitely ❤ Thank you Jae 🙂 so glad you liked it.
Beautiful imagery! Love the poem inspired by such a lovely quote.

very dreamy and romantic – romanticized too, as well, for surely, the lines “Autumn arrayed in crimson red, bear folds of fading green
reminds me oh that life is but an empty dream — ”
are a bit of “crushing call to reality” – but still, dreams, we must not give up on the dreams … so best to carry the love and dreams in heart, as you continue on, as noted, in your poem.
lovely elements within this poem Sanaa 🙂
Thank you so much, Pat 😀 so glad you liked it ❤️
lovely poem

The image of “unpetaled” flowers still pushing forward is both sad and energizing. So valiant, those ravished blooms, refusing to perish just because they lost their manes.
